We are excited to host our Summer Social at the Happy Gnome in Saint Paul for the fourth year in a row. Gather your friends and join us at this free event featuring appetizers, drinks, resume reviews, and great discussions about all things UX.

Mary Donnelly, Research Director at Evantage Consulting  

Mary Donnelly is the Research Director at Evantage Consulting and is part of the leadership team.  She has been in a consultant with Evantage for over 12 years.  She specializes in medical device research with many of her projects involving ethnographic research and contextual inquires in countries around the globe observing clinicians and interviewing patients.  She strives to bring her clients intelligent insights in order for them to create better, more user-friendly products.  Additionally, she spends her time crafting approaches for research and design projects.  She is well-equipped to assist with resume creation as one of the roles of her job is reviewing resumes and interviewing new user experience consultants.  Mary has a firm understanding of what potential employers are looking for in a candidate.

In her spare time, she can be found running trails for hours or consulting with the Minnesota RollerGirls serving in the position as founder and past-president.


Matthew Doty, Director of Experience Design, RBA Inc.

Matthew crosses the streams of his artistic roots, technical savvy and business acumen with his fascination for human behavior to create really awesome interactive experiences. Matthew's work with a broad variety of organizations (ranging from smaller operations to fortune 500 companies) enables him to gracefully plug a user-centered approach into virtually any organization or project. Matthew’s passion is helping individuals and organizations understand and then adopt the principles and techniques of user-centered design.

Fred Beecher, Director of User Experience & Design, The Nerdery

Fred Beecher has been working in User Experience since 1998. In that time he’s seen UX mature from a field struggling to prove its value to one driving an explosion of innovation and economic growth. To help feed the ever-increasing demand this explosion has sparked, Fred designed and implemented the UX apprenticeship program at The Nerdery in Minneapolis, MN where he is currently the Director of User Experience and Design.

Fred is an established contributor in the UX world. In 2007, he authored the first official Axure training program, which he ran until 2012. He has written numerous articles and blog posts on prototyping, iterative design, and UX career development, and he has spoken on these topics at design conferences worldwide.

Molly May McMahan, User Experience/User Interface Designer, SIX PEAKS

Molly May McMahan is a User Experience/User Interface Designer with over six years of developing both a print and digital practice. After graduating with her Master’s degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, McMahan has worked in agencies, B2B, and B2C markets with high profile clients like Honeywell, 3M, Topco, Ameriprise, Sportsmen’s Guide, Thomson Reuters, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. McMahan's creative experience includes: user experience design, creative consulting, marketing strategy, photography, videography, branding, writing, marketing automation, social, and interactive wireframing. McMahan has industry and channel experience in: eCommerce, Government Agency, Entertainment, Healthcare, Retail, and Manufacturing. 

In addition to her career practice, McMahan is the founder of SIX PEAKS. This multifaceted creative engine works in a variety of design mediums, including video, web, print, and digital design. McMahan has worked with a wide variety of clients, including: Ducks Unlimited, McDonald's, 9b Group DC, The Washington State Defense Alliance, For The Record: Rockwell Table and Stage LA, and The University of South Dakota. Recently McMahan's work was featured in a Minneapolis based magazine called Sic Semper Serpent, and has been published by Paper Darts: Art + Lit. Molly's passion is to invite, engage, move, and entice through design.

McMahan resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband, Johnne. 

Jeff Harrison, Senior Consultant, Evantage Consulting

Jeff Harrison is a senior consultant at Evantage Consulting, where he does research-driven design and evaluation of digital products and interfaces. Jeff got his first gig designing web-based application UI in 1996 and since then has called himself things like information architect, editor, interaction designer, and content manager before giving up and going with “UX guy.” He has worked both as a consultant and on in-house teams, in companies huge and small, and has accumulated better-than-average knowledge of financial services, medical devices, and online retail. He has been a member of the Minnesota U(X)PA chapter for several years and recently spoke at a monthly meeting about his current interest, the intersection of user-centered design and data visualization. Jeff has a BA from Macalester College and a master’s degree in software systems from the University of St. Thomas.

Lori Baker, Senior User Experience Consultant, Freelance 

Lori Baker has been working as a usability specialist in a variety of industries since 2002. Her specialties include strategy, user research, information architecture, interaction design, content strategy, and wireframing.

Previously, she was the Senior UX Manager at Best Buy managing UX Leads on the Commerce Product Team (cart through order complete), Profile (My Account), and US Web (Best Buy owned properties) for desktop, tablet and mobile platforms. Previous clients also include Digital River, Medtronic, Allianz, Thomson Reuters, and the State of MN.

Margaret Bossen, Director of Mobile User Experience, Optum UnitedHealth Group

Margaret Bossen is a highly accomplished UX strategist and designer, with experience in user experience, graphic design, and development. Her strong emphasis on large corporate web initiatives, interface design, mobile and social media, plus a side dish of front-end development and programming keeps her top of mind to agencies and development groups. 

Margaret has extensive experience with big corporations (Optum, Thomson Reuters), advertising agencies (Fallon, Campbell Mithun, etc.) and marketing firms (Hanley Wood, Rapp Collins, etc.) in addition to smaller, focused businesses, law firms, and agencies. She excels at handling international accounts and presenting project results and metrics to large and small audiences. Her passion and focus are on optimal efficiency and functionality, elegant design, and simplicity of interface and flow.

Shaymein Ewer, UX Design Supervisor, HealthPartners

Shaymein Ewer is currently the User Experience Design Supervisor for HealthPartners. Since 1998, Shaymein has been designing and developing websites for a variety of clients and industries ranging from Fortune 100 to small town mom and pop shops. He is regular contributor to various design blogs and has a history of speaking and teaching at national design conferences and local meetups.
